The first Western Canadian competition of 2011, Big Cubes BC, took place on March 19th in Vancouver, BC. The competition saw a significantly lower turnout than past Vancouver competitions, but was still a success in its own right.
Kevin Hays won the competition with an average of 12.31 seconds in the final round. In second place was our own Kristopher de Asis with a time of 13.29 seconds. And rounding out the top three was Ibrahim Vajgel-Shedid with an average of 13.45 seconds.
Ibrahim also reclaimed the National Record in the 6x6x6 event for both single and average. Kevin had his own success in the event, setting the North American Record in the 6x6x6 event for single solve.
As always these events wouldn’t be possible without the help and dedication from many people. canadianCUBING would like to thank all the volunteers that came out to help, all the parents that gave their time to make the day function, and the cubers themselves for filling in where help was needed.
The competition garnered some media attention. You can watch the Global TV clip here, the segment starts at 35:26. If you missed this competition and would like to attend one in BC again, keep your eye on this site for information about any upcoming competitions.
