canadianCUBING is pleased to announce the Toronto Open, Fall 2008 speedcubing competition. The competition will be held on November 1st, 2008, at Seneca College's Residence and Conference Centre, which is located at 1750 Finch Ave. East, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M2J 2X5.
Please refer to the map provided for information on how to get to the venue once on the Seneca premises. It will be held in Building I on the map, in conference rooms 1, 2 and 3 - which is the mirror of the last two competitons there.
This is an official WCA event, and as such all official regulations will be followed. Please take some time to read them over before the day of the competition, especially if you have never competed before.
A quick note about the weather. In Canada, any time between October and April, there is a chance of a snowstorm occurring. We had a massive snow storm at the last Seneca competition, in March of 2008. That competition went on in spite of the weather, and this competition will do the same. It is part of the game when trying to plan events during these months.
The following is a list of the events being offered at the competition.
Registration will open on October 1st, 2008 and will remain open until October 28th, 2008. Be sure to register before that date. Please remember, when you register you will receive an email. In the email is a link to allow you to edit your registration, including events, up to the close date of the registration. If you wish to change something, do not register again. Simply use the link provided in the email. Click here to complete your registration.
The prizes for this competition will consist of puzzle prize packs, complements of Kroeger Inc, certificates and cube stickers.

The cost to competitors that register online before the close date will be a $10 entrance fee which will include one event. Each additional event the competitor wishes to enter will be an additional $2 to a maximum of $20. If you miss the online registration, you can register the morning of the competition; the price at that time will be $15 entrance fee and include one event. Each additional event will still be $2.
Parking on the day of the competition will be complementary in lot P10 on the map above. But you need to stop at Building I and go in to the registration table first to pick up the pass. If you do not pick up the pass, the cost will be $8, so make sure you stop for the pass.
Cost for spectators at the competition is free of charge. So please come out and watch some of the fastest speedcubers in the country compete.
There is a cafeteria on the campus that will be open from 8:30AM – 2:00PM on the day of the competition. It has everything from hamburgers and fries to pizza, salads, and sandwiches. In addition, there is also a convenience store on site that offers complimentary coffee and all the snacks and beverages you could imagine. We will try to work in a brief break in the middle of the day to give everyone a chance to eat, time permitting. Feel free to bring your own food and drink to save costs.
We will once again be offering an after party for the competitors and their guests that will commence following the awards ceremony. It will be held in the same room as the competition itself to save time and costs. We will offer pizza with a variety of choices. We will have vegetarian pizzas available, as well.
The venue has accommodations on site for those out of town guests. The cost is an extremely reasonable $69.95 a night, plus applicable taxes, which includes a continental breakfast. Each suite offers two double beds, internet access, telephone, and cable TV. There is an additional charge of $5 for overnight parking. To book online, or find the number to call, visit their website. We suggest booking as soon as possible, as it is subject to availability.
We will once again have the merchandise table set up for you to purchase equipment and supplies for your cubing needs. To see a list of the items we will have available and their associated costs, please click here. We accept cash only.
We are always looking for dedicated people to donate their time and efforts to these competitions. We need scramblers and judges for every round of every event. It is a great opportunity for parents, siblings, friends, or anyone that wants to come and be involved but does not want to compete yet. We will provide training the morning of the competition for those wishing to help out. It is not difficult, so don't be afraid! Please contact us to let us know you are willing to volunteer.
For anyone that volunteers and helps out for an entire competition, we will act as a reference if you wish to put this on your resume or college application. We will also sign any high school volunteer hour sheets provided you work the entire competition.
