canadianCUBING is pleased to announce the Edmonton Open, Summer 2015 speedcubing competition. The competition will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at the Malmo Community Hall, which is located at 11525-48 Avenue NW, Edmonton AB (T6H 0E5).
This is an official WCA event, and as such all official regulations will be followed. Please take some time to read them over before the day of the competition, especially if you have never competed before.
Click here to access the registration form. Registration for the competition will close on August 26, 2015. Please be sure to register online to take advantage of the early bird pricing. Be aware that registration at the door may be dependent on the amount of space left (i.e. we may not be able to register you in every event you want). See the Cost section for details.
The cost to competitors that register online before the close date will be our standard pricing model. You will pay $15 to compete in one event, and each additional event will cost $2 to a max of $25.
If you do not register online before the close of the registration period, you can still register on the morning of the competition. The price at that time, however, is $20 for the first event, plus $2 per additional event with no maximum fee. You can edit your events using the link found in the email sent to you after registering.
Cost for spectators at the competition is free of charge, so please come out and watch some of the fastest speedcubers in the province compete.
The following is a list of the events currently offered at the competition.
The top three placements in each event will receive a certificate.
Download the schedule in PDF form by clicking here. The schedule is a tentative list of the order of events and estimated start time. All competitors should be ready to compete at all times.
There will be a scheduled break in the middle of the day for competitors, staff, and spectators to have lunch. Southgate Center (Mall) is 5 blocks to the east (< 15 minutes walking time) and has a food court.
We are always looking for dedicated people to donate their time and efforts to these competitions. We need scramblers and judges for every round of every event. It is a great opportunity for parents, siblings, friends, or anyone that wants to come and be involved but does not want to compete yet. We will provide training the morning of the competition for those wishing to help out. It is not difficult, so don't be afraid!
For anyone that volunteers and helps out for an entire competition, we will act as a reference if you wish to put this on your resume or college application. We will also sign any high school volunteer hour sheets provided you work the entire competition. But you must arrange this with us before the competition. Please fill in the form here if you plan to help out.
