Canada's official speedcubing organization

 Information

canadianCUBING is pleased to present the The canadianCUBING Classic 2009 (C3 2009). The competition will take place on Saturday July 25, 2009 at the The Children's Museum. The Museum is located at 10 King Street West, Kitchener, Ontario. The competition will run from 10AM to 5PM, the operating hours of the museum.

This competition will be similar to last year's C3 competition in the events offered. It is aimed at giving cubers a chance to set official times, as well as generate exposure for cubing here in Canada. We will have only seven official events available at the competition.

This is an official WCA event, and as such all official regulations will be followed. Please take some time to read them over before the day of the competition, especially if you have never competed before.

Click here to access the registration form. Registration for the competition will open on Monday June 08th, 2009 and close on Saturday July 18th, 2009. Please note that the close date is earlier than usual. The Museum requested we give them a list of competitors one week before the competition. So be sure to register early. See the Cost section for associated cost.

The cost to competitors that register online before the close date will be our standard pricing model. You will pay $10 to compete in one event. Each additional event will cost $2 to a max of $20. This fee also includes your admission to the museum itself, as the competition is inside the exhibits area.

If you do not register online before the close of the registration period, the cost to enter the competition is the same, but you do not get free admission to the museum. This means that you first have to pay admission to the museum, which is around $10, and then pay the registration fee of $10 for one event, and $2 per additional event. We will cap the registration fee at $20 as well. So be sure to register online to avoid paying the museum entrance fee.

Unfortunately, the cost to non competitors is the regular admission price to the museum. To see the price models available, click here. We suggest planning groups of 6 to take advantage of the group rate.

There is paid parking in a parking garage behind the museum. If you are thrifty enough, there are free parking lots within walking distance to the museum.

The following is a list of the events currently offered at the competition. We may have to cut one of the big cube events depending on time constraints, but for now we will make them available.

  • Magic
  • 2x2x2
  • 3x3x3
  • 3x3x3 One-Handed
  • 3x3x3 Blindfolded
  • 4x4x4
  • 5x5x5

The top three placements in each event will receive a prize for their achievements. Prizes will be certificates and some other item to be decided later.

There is a café onsite where you can buy things to eat and drink. There are also several restaurants in close proximity to the museum, such as Mr. Sub.

This competition will not have an after party, since the museum will close immediately after the competition itself. To make up for this, we will plan to have a cube meeting in August.

If you are coming from out of town, we may be able to arrange for you to stay at one of our local cubers' houses. Contact us to let us know, and we will put you in contact with some of the willing cubers.

canadianCUBING have a merchandise booth set up for you to purchase equipment and supplies for your cubing needs. We accept cash only. It is on a first come, first serve basis. We cannot guarentee any items, but if you are looking for something specific, let us know and we will try our best to find it for you.

We are always looking for dedicated people to donate their time and efforts to these competitions. We need scramblers and judges for every round of every event. All volunteers will be admitted to the museum FREE OF CHARGE. It is a great opportunity for parents, siblings, friends, or anyone that wants to come and be involved but does not want to compete yet. We will provide training the morning of the competition for those wishing to help out. It is not difficult, so don't be afraid! Please contact us to let us know you are willing to volunteer.

For anyone that volunteers and helps out for an entire competition, we will act as a reference if you wish to put this on your resume or college application. We will also sign any high school volunteer hour sheets provided you work the entire competition. But you must arrange this with us before the competition. Use the contact form .
