canadianCUBING is pleased to announce Big Cubes BC 2011 ((BC)2 2011). The competition will be held on March 19th, 2011, at The Crystal Mall Shopping Centre, which is located at 4538 Kingsway Burnaby, BC. As with VO2009, we will be competing in the Food Court area.
After its absence at VO2010, Big Cubes are back with a vengeance. 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 make their return, but we can't forget about our other favourites, such as the classic Rubik's Cube. Will records be broken again? Come out to witness and participate in what could very well be cubing history in the making.
This is an official WCA event, and as such all official regulations will be followed. Please take some time to read them over before the day of the competition, especially if you have never competed before.
Click here to access the registration form. Registration for the competition will open on February 17, 2011 and close on March 16, 2011. So be sure to register online to take advantage of the early bird pricing. See the Cost section for details.
The cost to competitors that register online before the close date will be our standard pricing model. You will pay $10 to compete in one event. Each additional event will cost $2 to a max of $20.
If you do not register online before the close of the registration period, you can still register the morning of the competition. The price at that time, however, is $15 for the first event, $2 per additional event with no maximum fee. So be sure to register online. You can edit your events using the link found in you the email sent to you after registering.
For transportation, we strongly recommend using public transit for our competitors. The Crystal Mall is a short walk from Metrotown Skytrain station (Expo Line) and fare rates range from $1.75 to $2.50. There is also paid parking at the mall at a cost of $10 for the day. The first three hours of parking are free, and payment is charged after the third hour.
Cost for spectators at the competition is free of charge.
The following is a list of the events currently offered at the competition.
The top three placements will be recognized for their achievements.
Download the schedule in PDF form by clicking here. The schedule is a tentative list of the order of events and estimated start time. All competitors should be ready to compete at all times.
The food court has multiple vendors from which competitors and guests may purchase lunch. We will work in a break in the middle of the day to allow all competitors time to eat.
We encourage competitors to gather either at the food court or in a nearby park after the competition to relax and have fun without the stress of the competition.
There are several hotels in and around the venue area. We will recommend the Holiday Inn in Burnaby.
We are always looking for dedicated people to donate their time and efforts to these competitions. We need scramblers and judges for every round of every event. It is a great opportunity for parents, siblings, friends, or anyone that wants to come and be involved but does not want to compete yet. We will provide training the morning of the competition for those wishing to help out. It is not difficult, so don't be afraid!
For anyone that volunteers and helps out for an entire competition, we will act as a reference if you wish to put this on your resume or college application. We will also sign any high school volunteer hour sheets provided you work the entire competition. But you must arrange this with us before the competition. Contact us here if you plan to help out.
